As trends go, anything with a bird detail on it is something to tweet about. Whether that’s on a cushion, a fabric design, a tea light holder or Christmas decorations. I started seeing Christmas trends in March this year and bird decorations have just started taking over in the shops. Visit any high street shop or interiors website and you’ll find a take on a bird design in one form or the other. I must say that I think they're lovely. After all the festivities, when our Christmas tree has come down, I’ll find a little spot for my bird decorati...View more

Bedrooms are for more than just sleeping in. Aside from the obvious, they’re also a place of sanctuary, a room to hunker down in, hide from the world, and turn into a nest where nobody can reach you. A good bedroom needs to have the following: a bed, of course, and good lighting. ‘I like to have individual wall sconces on each side of the bed,’ says the interior designer Nina Campbell, who has clearly lived through the argument that happens when one half of the couple wants to go to sleep and the other st...View more

Autumn/Winter. That time of year that’s all about new coats, new shoes and new pencil cases. And, if you look at interiors trends, pink and purple. Yes, every year, as predictable as the lack of Indian summer, comes an array of cushions, vases, and even sofas in funky fuchsias and moody maroons. Pink lifts the look...View more

So 'Shabby Chic' is back this coming season and House of Fraser is rocking the trend in a bold and brazen fashion. It happens to the best of trends - they'll always come back to haunt after a decade of trying to pretend they never happened. But this time round the look is less shabby and more chic and a natural continuation of the ubiquitous trend for vintage style. Think washed out pastels and faded neutrals in...View more

Despite Kat Slater’s best efforts to ruin it for everyone, fashion went wild for leopard prints last season. From shoes to shrugs, it really was an urban jungle out there - and this year’s interiors looks set to be just as full of animal magic. However, before you go all out on B&Q’s leopard print wallpaper (yes, really), this season, there’s a twist. It’s animal print, sure, but smart decorators are doing it with serious splashes of colour thrown in.
Using pattern is a...

Chintz has a lot to answer for. It single-handedly ruined floral prints as if it was some sort of industrial weedkiller instead of a pretty daisy design. Suddenly florals looked fussy, old fashioned and like something you might find in the back of Granny’s bureau. But then teatime made a comeback, and all those old tea sets nestling, well, in the back of Granny’s bureau, suddenly became collectable again. And like a well-tended garden, florals are b...View more
