Interior designer Sheena Abbot-Davies invites us on a tour of her west London home

We asked designer Sheena Abbot-Davies, founder of loungewear brand Dote, about her decorating choices at home, where she’s indulged her love of neutral colours, rich fabrics and introduced revamped antique furniture alongside more modern pieces. Step inside the home here…

Tell us about your home?

The house is in west London.  It's close enough to central London to be able to walk to Oxford Street. We have a wonderful park opposite the house where my boys can play sports – it’s a godsend. There is a kitchen, family and dining room at basement level, a formal sitting room and cloakroom on the raised ground floor and there are five big bedrooms upstairs. My favourite is the master bedroom, which takes up the entire first floor and has a wonderful dressing room and very luxurious bathroom. We tried to create a very pale and light scheme for the house, so it is mostly white, and then we have added pops of pastel colours.

Can you tell us about the scheme you’ve created for your living room (above). How do you pack so much interest into a neutral space?

I used many old pieces from the auction house where I love to shop, so the look is quite eclectic and unusual.

You obviously don’t like to have a lot on show in your kitchen. Why did you choose such a streamlined feel?

I think it's smarter – but obviously the house is new and organised and it will become more lived in and cluttered as time progresses.

This is a fabulously spacious bedroom. Can you give us some tips on how you make a big room seem airy rather than empty?

It's about textures, and contrast and cosiness – the carpet is silk, and the colours are also soothing and calm, but there is quite a bit of colour so that makes it cosier.

Can you tell us a little about how you’ve softened the look of this contemporary bathroom?

There are many different types of materials here: mosaic, marble, wood and ceramic and also lots of paint on the walls, which all help prevent it from being too clinical. Also a nice armchair is rather softening, too!
