Tweet Tweet: How to use bird motifs in your home decor

Now the seasonal weather has finally put in an appearance, gardens and parks are alive with a chirping, cheeping feathered throng. And when we think of tweeting, it's not micro-blogging that springs to mind, but bird motifs in home design. Birds are inside as well as outside, adding the prettiest of detail to our rooms. Take a closer look here at some great ways to add a fabulous bird motif to your schemes...

Upholstering a chair in a patterned fabric to work alongside a plain sofa is a sound strategy when you want to create a living room scheme that looks sophisticated. A bird motif is a fantastic choice (as above) if you’re after some country hotel-style elegance for your room. Choose a pattern scale you can see from across the room because unless you’re a contortionist, you won’t be appreciating your rather good taste when you sit down. Pictured above is the Dovedale fabric from the Country House collection at Prestigious Textiles.

Dining spaces can pose the problem of looking a bit, well, empty. If the only furniture is a table and chairs, there’s not a lot of decorative detail to feast your eyes on – and we do want to feed our vision as well as our stomachs, after all. A wallpaper with an aviary full of our feathered friends will give the area personality. This is Crowe Hall Lane in Paradise from the London Wallpapers III collection by Little Greene.

Dressing your table with plain white china? We know it’s easy, but choose a design with a white background and a coloured motif, and you can add it in with your existing pieces, creating a unique setting for your table. Bird motifs on china are classic, so will be on trend now but look good as long as you love them, which we call a result. The Bird & flower bowls pictured here are from ALSO Home.

What we particularly love about a bird motif is that you can create a clever feature with it. There are no wing-cramping issues when you put your interiors bird in a cage, so you can hang a row of them for a chic focal point in your living space. This Birdsong custom made wallpaper comes from 55MAX.

Need a quick way to pretty up a room? Then again, the pretty bird motif is your answer. Look for them on cushions (like this birds and berries design from Helen Steel at Seek & Adore), unfussy bird ornaments or think laterally and just add an elegant cage to dress up a windowsill.
