Out and about at the Buddha Bar

Blink and you may miss the doors leading into London's swanky Buddha Bar. Following a two year hiatus the restaurant has a brand new location, decor and menu so it's pretty special. The name may ring a bell if you've been to the original in Paris (created by designer Raymon Visan) or other branches in New York and Dubai. Buddha Bar is actually more restaurant than bar and the recent opening brings with it a whole new level of glamour and of course yummy food.

Spread over two floors the interior is impressive with a strong Oriental influence - think wall-mounted bronze Buddha sculptures and crystal dragons hanging from the ceiling. Dim lighting is accentuated with bursts of pink and blue, an appropriate setting we think for the pan-Asian inspired menu.

Sushi fans will be in heaven with a long list of menu options but there's enough for everyone including the much-raved about Black cod with lemon grass miso (which we had) and spicy truffle lobster, all accompanied with fantastic wine and expertly mixed cocktails (try the Special Espresso that comes with dry apricot, figs, sultanas, date-infused Zacapa 23, espresso, coffee liquor and agave syrup). Yes, it’s an unusual mix but worth trying...if only once.

By the time we left almost every table was full, but don’t worry if you can’t get a booking for dinner, the restaurant is also open for lunch and makes a perfect pit stop after a morning pounding the streets for Christmas presents.
