Scandi style at its best

As winter approaches and the temperature drops, cosy Scandinavian style at home ticks all the right boxes. As The Scandinavia Show 2012 came to London last week, so came heaps of interiors inspiration. Here are some  highlights to hot up your home...

No Scandinavian home is complete without a wood burning stove and Morsø (pictured above) illustrates how stylish the set up can be when a traditional-style stove is teamed with a neutral colourscheme.

RöotsLiving is a new company based in the UK, importing Scandinavian and especially Danish products. Its look borders on Japanese, as Scandinavian design often does, and is characterised by small pattern repeats and a subtle colour palette.

Louise Little from Hus & Hem has her own top tips for creating a Scandinavian interior.'Buy once and buy well,' she says. 'I’d paint white walls and then fill the room with colour. Change the colours to suit your mood and to suit the season.'

Linum had some gorgeous grey Christmas accessories, which sums up the understated Scandi look at its best. It maybe a bit early to talk Christmas, but this colour is set to be a big hit this season.

The highlight of the show was the Nordic House, a three-room installation by Staffan Tollgård. Tove Jonerot, who is one of the Staffan Tollgård Design Group team, says: 'Scandinavian interiors are very minimalistic so we see a lot of natural textures and materials. It’s very honest.'

Simon Harrison, owner of the Danish Homestore gave a few tips on investing in Scandi pieces: 'Visit Denmark first because you’ll get a better feel. Buy your personal style and buy the right pieces – you can go straight in and buy the rare name pieces but anybody can do that. It’s about picking the ones that are not quite in the top range prices yet – ten years down the line they’re the ones that will pay off.'
