Get baking and make summer last with these Rose Flowerpot cakes

With The Great British Bake Off capturing our imaginations and The Cake & Bake Show 2012 at Earl's Court coming up this weekend, there has never been a more exciting time to get creative in the kitchen. This weekend, I was busy experimenting with all sorts of cake decorating ideas including these Rose Flowerpot cakes - just because Summer is bidding us farewell for another year, doesn't mean we can't still enjoy some beautiful blooms! And the best bit? You get to eat them!

To make these you'll need to get your hands on some silicone cake cases in the shape of flower pots - I bought mine online. These will let you to bake your desired cake flavour directly in the cute pots and easily decorate them with pretty flowers. For a super-quick fix you can opt for a ready-made chocolate cake mix (from all good supermarkets). Cook it straight in the flower pots and once cooled, pipe green buttercream grass straight on top of the cake (use a specific 'grass nozzle' or for an easier option, paste on the green buttercream).

Flower roses are super simple to make by cutting petals from coloured ready-to-roll icing and sticking together, or you can decorate with pretty ready-made rose buds, which can be found all good supermarkets. It's quick and easy to make and decorate these Rose Flowerpot cakes, but they look fun and original. Why not treat yourself to some classic cake showcased in a delightfully different way this week...
