Five key pieces for your home

If your décor, and your mood for that matter, is feeling a little rough around the edges after the hubbub of the festive season, there’s no need to sacrifice your precious time to get everything back in shape. Just focus on adding a few small design touches now, which you can add to over the following months, and you’ll reap the benefits - before you know it your home will look so unexpectedly transformed that you’ll be double taking when you walk through the door at night, to check you’ve entered the right house…

Luxurious fixtures and fittings are the way forward - whether it’s a glamourous piece of statement furniture with a curvaceous body, smart unruffled new bed linen that wouldn’t look out of place at The Savoy or a new piece of art that becomes a real conversation point – even if it’s not to everyone’s taste but your own.

Bedroom bliss: Delve into this sleek Conran Bed Linen set (above), designed by Sir Terence Conran and his team. Try teaming white bed linen with a luxurious mocha or metallic-coloured throw to create a great all-year-round look. Apparently we spend a third of our lives in bed, and yes, it doesn’t feel like it when the Monday morning alarm goes off does it, but, if your bedding looks top notch it will no doubt help you feel fresh when you wake up. And, it’ll make you want to get some early nights - a good excuse to snuggle up with those books you got for Christmas.

A touch of glitz: Accent pieces such as this charming Jeeves Tray Table from Libra (below) not only vamps up a dull corner, but is perfect for resting your cuppa during the day and doubling up as a drinks and nibbles stand by night. Anyone up for a party?

Chair candy: Add character to a bedroom or corner of your living with a key piece such as this French chateau inspired Mamara chair from Libra. Its high-curved back, stud detail and ornate accents blend well with its neutral fabric finish.

Happy feet, happy mind: That new parquet floor may look the part, but nothing beats walking over soft carpet after a hard day out and about. Compromise by investing in a neutral rug such as this Calvin Klein beauty, which adds elegance and makes you feel like a million dollars, without the million dollar price tag.

Smart art: To give that empty space in the hall or landing a lift, a simple and chic piece of artwork is a great tool. Fine art prints depicting flora and fauna and seascapes are always greeted with a smile (unless you’re a full-on Abstract Impressionist fan perhaps). Try adding pieces to your hall such as this classic fine artwork of an Orchid by Matther Moore. Rather lovely don't you think?
