Size is starting to matter. It’s no longer about having a beautiful light or a comfy chair, or a shaggy rug to walk on – now furniture and accessories have got to be outsized, huge, and give you the feeling of Alice in Wonderland, dwarfed by your surroundings. Playing with scale brings an instant feeling of drama to a room, and the larger and more out of place the better. ‘I love supersized chandeliers with low ceilings, and tiny tub chairs set in front of massive windows,’ says top interior designer Abigail Ahern. ‘It just makes things interesting – if all the proportions are the same it simply makes life boring.’ You heard it from the expert: either very small is chic, or very big is beautiful.
