Jo Malone Tea Fragrance Blends launch

Jo Malone had a press launch of its new fragrances this morning - the Limited Edition Tea Fragrance Blends - in the stunning setting of Albany House, Mayfair. The new range of colognes are inspired by, you guessed it, the most quintessential of British traditions: the art of tea. Just as there's a tea to suit every taste, there's a tea cologne for every style and mood.

As each new Jo Malone fragrance was presented, we enjoyed breakfast with cake, mini crumpets and Welsh rarebit, and sampled deliciously refreshing tea from Rare Tea Company.

The Jo Malone Tea Fragrance Blends include Assam & Grapefruit (my favourite, featuring undertones of warm patchouli, spicy cardamom and almond), Earl Grey & Cucumber (rather delicious, with hints of vanilla and musk), Fresh Mint Leaf (simple and stylish), Sweet Lemon (with a fruity twist of pineapple, peach and fresh green cypress) and Sweek Milk (a daring scent and ultimately an acquired taste - a bit like Marmite). And no, dabbing a bit of Typhoo behind your ears won't have the same effect.

'The idea of taking a classic ritual and re-interpreting it in an innovative way is signature to Jo Malone,' says Master Perfumer Christine Nagel, who worked in collaboration with the Jo Malone Creative Studio for this range.

At Albany House there's decor of interest at every turn - we sat in the tea room, which is flanked with works by Bridget Riley and of Andy Warhol to name a few. At the end of the event we had a sneaky peak at Albany House's secret tunnels below, which lead from Mayfair to Soho. They were built by Henry Holland in 1803-3 and generally used by 'high-class gentlemen to escort their mistresses'. It's fascinating to think of the private London underworld that lays beneath this city, especially when I'm shopping unawares on my lunchbreak on Oxford Street...
