Lashings of London: Home decor with city style

The smoky Capital is a popular theme gracing the print screens of some of the most exciting interior designers right now. We’re not talking tacky tourist souvenir shops selling London-bus fridge magnets and umbrellas. Oh no. We’re onto something edgier. Think quirky depictions and mentions of the city on soft furnishings and accessories, in ways we’ve never seen before.

Aside from the caffeine-fuelled stress, noise and pollution - and we realise it mostly goes with the territory - we’ve never been more in love with London’s architecture and history. Love it or hate it, it’s a delight to see these charming nods to London spilling over onto our doormats and into our homes. How fabulous is the Big Ben Wall Clock sticker (above) with working Quartz hands, for example?  Incidentally, wall stickers are big news in home styling, adding character to your walls without you having to don an overall and pose with your paint brush.

You can also mix country and city style with these rustic slate placemats by London Kills Me, which are peppered with pretty hand-printed London landmarks. We love the one of Battersea Power Station - there’s something romantically wonderful about its looming chimneys and tragic derelict state. The ride doesn’t stop there. These London Kills Me silk-screen printed cushions are great fun too.

In the bathroom, you can plan your journey while you're in the shower with the iconic Underground Shower Map.

Lizzie Allen’s screen-printed wallpapers also bring city wit and wonder to your walls and are ideal for individual panels or feature walls. ‘London City Gents’ and ‘Changing Guards at Buckingham Palace’ are particularly charming.

As we come to the end of this trend journey, we’re off to snuggle up on the sofa with Barbara Coupe’s SORRY NOT IN SERVICE cushion…nice.
